1517 AD - Christian By Grace. Lutheran By Choice.
Being born and raised Lutheran I never really appreciated our Lutheran heritage. After wandering around in
"Denomination Hell" for many years I took a new look starting from 1517 AD and moving forward. What a
journey. Now I know of no more solid ground. I am a Christian who is Lutheran.

Law And Gospel
Without the Law, we cannot appreciate the Gospel. Without the Gospel we cannot fulfill the Law. As this site, and my faith journey continue, this is where I hope to share a bit about life, seminary and discernment. A second career seminarian/lawyer and Lutheran contemplates the intersection of faith and the real world, and the tension between law and the Gospel , while maintaining a money pit house, raising teens, and sharing life with a wonderfully supportive but tool challenged husband and an old beagle.

Ultimately , all I end up saying seems to resolve in prayer, in acknowledging that we are all intimately connected as members of the Body of Christ, and that what harms one, harms all -- what heals one, heals all. At the heart of how I see the world is the wonder of God's grace, wholly unmerited and freely given.

It was regular practice in the medieval university for faculty and students to engage in the art of disputation. This blog presupposes the corporate nature of the theological enterprise, supposing that theology, particularly Lutheran theology, can once again clarify its truth claims and provide rational justification for its positions.

Does the church make sense or do we make it too hard for people to come in? I think yes and yes and the task then is to make it easier. Maybe for someone out there, this will be the case.
